Amy Maria Burns
Hometown: Bristol, Rhode Island
Currently resides: I live outside of Boston and am active in both the Providence and Boston dance communities.
What ADLI means to me: It's vital to me to work with those who recognize and share the history, legacy, and importance of American modern dance. I've been working with ADLI for over 10 years and I am an original member of Dancing Legacy.
Education/training: I graduated magna cum laude from Adelphi University with a BFA in dance where I had the honor of working and studying with Robert Christopher, Carmen DeLavallade, Gail Gilbert, Edisa Weeks, and Rebecca Wright.
Professional experience: I have danced in works by Robert Battle, Laura Bennett, Danny Grossman, Deb Meunier, David Parsons, and Anna Sokolow. I am a member of Fusionworks Dance Company and Sokolow Now!, dedicated to performing the works and preserving the legacy of choreographer Anna Sokolow.
Favorite teacher: Carmen DeLavallade. She could walk into the room and it was a dance! She was such a nurturing teacher and woman, always showing how much she cared about you as a whole person.
How I recharge: read a good book, (I try to read at least one a month), yoga, play and watch football, and anything outside in the sunshine!
When not dancing: I spend most of my time with my three greatest accomplishments who go by the names Anthony, Eliana, and Marcus.
