Karishma Desai Album
Los Angeles born Karishma
Desai has been under the tutelage of her mother and Guru Smt. Supriya Desai for the past
7 years. She had demonstrated enough dancing talents at 3 to be almost called a child prodigy. Starting with a part in the mangalam of “Jai Shiva Shankar”, at 6 years old, she has progressed naturally into performances at various events. As an eight-year old, she demonstrated the basic Adavus on Raleigh TV. Her Tillana at NCSU’s 2004 Asia Night, was considered a highlight of the show and a picture of her dance and an interview of her were featured in the NC State Technician newspaper. She was also selected to be in the SRHS 2005 chorus-sponsored talent show where she preformed a fusion Indian dance titled “Bo Shambo.” This was featured in the SRHS T.V. news broadcast as well. To further and broaden her dance skills, Karishma is now taking cheer-leading lessons.
She showed a natural flair for acting, when, in the second grade, she played, very convincingly, the “scarecrow” (main character) in “The Owl That Lost its Hoot.”
Her musical talents got exposure, when she auditioned and was selected to be in the Oak Grove Elementary School 4th grade chorus, obtained the hard-to-get solo singing part in her 5th grade graduation and a part in the Lufkin Road Middle School 8th grade chorus. and culminating in the prestigious All-county chorus of Wake County as a Pop/Jazz choir Soprano in her high-school freshman year.
Outside of stage arts, Karishma received first prize for the National Story Completion Contest at the AKKA (American Kannada Kootas Association) 2002 world conference held in Detroit. Her voluntary work with Med Club at SERHS took her to the NC State HOSA convention at Greensboro, in April 2006, where she placed 5th (out of 87) in the competition for knowledge of nutrition, and was then selected to participate in the national competition in Anaheim, CA in June. She was elected the bio-medical liason for med club
She has maintained a very high gpa and a ranking in the top 3% in the class of 2009 at SRHS.
